New: Tackle Your Writing Online!

Some students can manage well with online learning, while others benefit from the extra monitoring in a physical class. If your child is comfortable with online learning, we offer a new online writing holiday course tailored for them. This course provides targeted training to address your child’s specific areas of weakness in creative writing. Conducted by engaging and skilled online teachers, the course is designed to maximise lesson time, ensuring your child becomes more productive and gains confidence in their writing skills.

We see this as an opportunity to give your child more writing practices, such that you can be assured that the holidays bring about great value to your child’s creative writing progress.

Only experienced online teachers are conducting this course for your child, and we are going to ensure that the lessons are time and cost efficient for you.

Note that marking is conducted after each lesson, with constructive feedback and grades provided.

Language Paper 1 : Creative Writing

Writing test topics in school vary from year to year, and a good understanding of plot manipulation can significantly improve children’s performance. By segmenting the lesson into smaller, targeted activities, we ensure that every minute is used effectively. The materials are designed to facilitate steady progress throughout the 2-hour session, allowing your child to gain maximum benefit from the structured learning experience.

Each day, your P4 or P5 child will craft compositions during our lessons, applying new creative phrases and techniques to improve their performance. We have been nailing the PSLE topics with a 95% accuracy since 2012. These lessons align with MOE’s assessment standards, with detailed marking included.

Course Highlights:

  • Plotting with the theme in mind, leading towards an end goal
  • Driving the plot forward more tightly, avoiding plot holes
  • Students will complete a checklist of achievements, redeemable for incentives
  • Feedback given for written work, along with areas for improvement by qualified teachers

Learning Outcomes:

(1) Creative Writing:

  • Revising essential plot structure
  • Expanding Plot with Conflicts, Climax and Crises in the storyline
  • Describing Settings and Characters vividly
  • Having fun creating at least one plot twist in the stories
  • Cleverly depicting falling actions in the plot
  • Coming up with story endings that drive home specific messages

“My favourite story is Father Christmas. We get to act out a skit before we started analysing the characters. During that lesson, I learnt to write something meaningful. Best of all, I could get a lollipop as a reward. This is my third holiday course at Writers Studio.”

“I like to write but I needed to put on a bigger thinking cap. I learnt to make some bends in my story plot. I learnt new ways to write about the characters and what they do in their stories. I could pick up new vocabulary because at every paragraph, we are taught new phrases.”

“I enjoy the lessons taught during the Creative Writing Camp. There were so many interesting activities. I remember that we had to wear a face mask with a big nose and act out a character. It makes me think about what the character will say and do in my story. I learn to create new characters in my stories.”
